Cinemagraphs (Part II)

These cinemagraphs, or gifs as they are more commonly called, can be created in a variety of ways. One could use a small section of video to create a cinemagraph. One could create a cinemagraph from one static image and a third option is to use a bit of both. The cinemagraph in my previous post was created using a static image as well as part of a video clip of geese flying. The background in that video clip was masked out to a transparency.


Since these gif files have become so popular in social media, text messages and so forth, tools have been created to make it easy for anyone to make a gif. I will provide a few more examples showing how I made a cinemagraph from one static image. In my case, I use the open source GIMP for post-processing many of my images. GIMP includes a filter under G'MIC called Morph. With that filter, I created the following cinemagraphs. You are only limited by your imagination...
